About Cynthia

I am a textile artist, embroiderer, wood burner, costumer, painter, and weaver who sees magic and change in the chain stitch and a well done Palestrina knot. I wish I had more control over the ways of the human world but alas, all I can control are my actions and my attitude in life and the consistency of my stitches. And sometimes even that doesn’t pan out as hoped and I must rip rip rip.

What a week!

I have all kinds of posts in my mind just begging to get out.  But I have two websites launching on Friday, an entire set of business templates (letterhard, cards, etc) due then too. Gotta raise my prices. My brother is visiting with his family France for just this week, I’m moving and packing, I have two potlucks, and one really huge and very long and late into the night Hekate’s Night ritual.

I’ve been nominated by Turtleheart Cove and Skyclad Crafting for the Kreativ Blogger aware. Look for my real gratitude post soon.

I had an absolutely amazing Samhain…

Update on the petition to join a coven and amends that ensued…

Hermes message was received and as promised, it was a doozy.

A Contest!  The winner will receive on of my tarot bags, watch for details.

Oh my goodness, I don’t know which way is up!

And I’ve got to vote too!!

Potatos bubbling on the  stove for potato salad, lunch is cooking too, the cheap ass single paned windows are all fogged up but it’s a gorgeous Seattle day, blue skies, green trees, red and gold trees in great abundance, mountains, and sea.  Yeah.  I live in one of the prettiest places on earth.

WordPress now has polls, WOOOHOOO.  So, which of those things should I write about first?  Help me prioritize.

God Bless Mark Morford

He seems to be the only person who feels like I do. At least the only one I find in my small little internet world.  None of my friends see what he and I see. And it warms the cockles of my little heart it does.

So then. I say we’re being asked, right now, to understand that there are, in fact, two fundamental kinds of history. The first is the most common, the type we’ve grown pathetically used to, the type that soils the spirit and stabs us in the back as it takes down office towers and induces war and misprision and wallows in nearly unbearable quantities of fear. We get that a lot.

The second kind is perhaps the most rare of all. This is the history that comes around only once or twice per generation, that emerges from somewhere deep and urgent to move us forward; it’s a kind that invites growth and sparks surprisingly constructive feelings in everyone and everything it touches. Do you recognize that kind? Right. Me neither. Until now.

And now here it is, in the form of this Obama fellow, this rare and extraordinary flavor of history, this impossible thing, right on our doorstep, awaiting our vote, merely asking us if we’re ready. Are we?

6 Things To Know About Me

The guidelines. You know how I feel about rules.

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

The person who tapped me on the shoulder, and said, “Tag!”: Thalia of Amused Grace.  This is going to be hard. One of my six is even one of Thalia’s six. I’m going to nab that one to get the ball rolling.

1. I can sit for hours just going through my boxes of beads, boxes of fabric, embroidery wools (some even dyed by me just like Thalia), all calling me for this or that project. It is in fact the first step in the design process for me much of the time.  Sometimes I see a bit of art or craft from someone else that gets me going and I know exactly what fibers/materials I’m going to use. But sometimes I’m looking for whatever it is that needs to get out into the world and I pull out everything from its stash spots (goodness I can hardly wait to have a studio where everything is already out) and just moon and drool over them.  Then I start saying, Hey you go with this and I never noticed before how cool this is with that.  Yeah.  Perfect rainy afternoon. It is my art that gets me into more trouble with money.  I know how rare certain things are to find so I buy them when I see them and sometimes I simply can’t afford it. But some time later, sometimes years, I am really glad I snagged it. Continue reading

Book Reviews and A New Day

Somehow I’ve attracted the notice of Red Wheel Books and their affiliates.  They have a large selection of Pagan and Wiccan titles, many of which are either old favorites or new interesting choices.  I have been invited to review as many books as I like and post the reviews on my blog, even if they aren’t glowing.  I intend to be fair and honest but kind.  I know how tender us writers/artists can be. They are sending the package out today.  And she loves my blog for its honesty and my handwork.  What an honor and heart boost.

I’ve received many kind comments and private emails in response to my post about money.  I cried as I read them.  Katherine, your Goddess of Love paragraph started the deluge.  Ahhhhhhhh.  And this morning I have no headache.  I allowed myself to do nothing work related yesterday, took a long nap, and read a mindless thriller.  I feel much better today.  One day at a time.  Thank you all so much.

Thank you Universe.  You catch me every time.
