About Cynthia

I am a textile artist, embroiderer, wood burner, costumer, painter, and weaver who sees magic and change in the chain stitch and a well done Palestrina knot. I wish I had more control over the ways of the human world but alas, all I can control are my actions and my attitude in life and the consistency of my stitches. And sometimes even that doesn’t pan out as hoped and I must rip rip rip.

Gaia

I have a fairly large collection of Tarot decks. I find the art gorgeous and honestly, it’s a huge inspiration for me. When in between projects the decks are my go to. And not just artistically.

This deck was created by a local gal in the Bellingham area. Not only is her artwork incredible but her insight and intuitive take on the cards is beautiful and nurturing.

Many of you will like these cards but for those on a healing journey you will like it especially.

Boo

After 2 days of pretty solid work (left hand is wondering what got into me), I’ve got a top that makes me happy. Sanded the work and then went over the dark areas a second time. Super nice depth this way.

Now working on translating what’s in my head to the sides. Since this is Samhain and my style is whimsical I’m trying for blend but it feels a little like trying to blend Pee Wee Herman with Papa Legba… Here is an image of my inspiration.

P.S. good news, the crutches aren’t as risky as thought. Whew! Now I can relax a bit.

Boom!

Yup. Fell down went boom.

You’d think I had enough on my plate but noooo. The week I start radiation I fall and sprain my ankle but good. Crutches need to be used but for as short a period as possible My underarms are still damaged from surgery and the crutches can cause lymphedema if I’m not careful and the friction can damage my skin as we head into week two of rads. because as much as I need them I hate them. Mostly I really hate being dependent on anyone any longer…

I’ve got some new works in progress. Got this box colored and the sides complete. I don’t understand the flowers at all but I’m guessing they understand themselves just fine.

This is for a coffin box that I hope I get done before Samhain.  Inspired by a piece by Sheila Rayyan at Motherspoon I hope she’s flattered as this piece will stay in my possession. Sorry for the poor photo, I just can’t get around easy. Design in progress.

This one will be on a heart shaped piece for a wall plaque. Also a design in progress.

I’m healing well and once I’m more mobile I hope I’ll be more active here but it *is* hard to plan these things.

Blessings to you all as Mabon (equinox) approaches and fall fully descends. May your harvest be bountiful.

July

Just an update as I see it’s been awhile.

  1. Chemo ends on July 25th and then I get a three week rest so I can get ready for 7 weeks of radiation
  2. Nothing tastes good besides grapes and cereal this week.  Even my beloved mashed potatoes don’t taste good. I’ve finally started to loose weight, 5 pounds according to my scale. I was working on losing 20 when diagnosed so weight loss was put on hold to get me through chemo.  Not recommended but not worrisome since I am almost done and do have the spare weight just in case.
  3. Mr. Furnace is between apartments and he and his delightful cat are sharing my space for a few weeks.  It’s interesting to see how we function with daily full contact.
  4. Mom and I continue working on getting the house downsized for sale.  Yard Sale is September 7th
  5. I’m not making much of anything these days, just VERY slowly plodding through the unfinished projects bin.
  6. Have started a circle with a friend of mine. We are currently creating our circle format and plan on starting full speed at Yule. I’m very excited about this and it keeps me going right now.  It is my main focus outside of health.
  7. FUNDRAISER on Saturday August 3rd.  If you are in the Seattle area, come down and join the fun!

Things I’m Considering for the Future

  1. Shutting down the Etsy Shop for time being
  2. Shutting down Medieval Tailor.  Some bitch stole half my pages and some from other sites too and is presenting it as her own work. She even used my quatrefoil/burgundy/gold design. She changed the quatrefoil to a fleur de lis but god, not an original bone in her body. Hate. Her. Just not worth the trouble to me any more. Update: I’ve made some progress, wish me luck, she’s ruining my SEO. You don’t want two identical site pages competing with each other for SEO ranking)
  3. Shutting Down Stitch Witch Cottage

I’m sure I’ll feel differently about many things once I start recovering from the radiation phase of treatment but right now I simply can’t face one more thing.  I think of you daily with much fondness so we shall see.
