About Cynthia

I am a textile artist, embroiderer, wood burner, costumer, painter, and weaver who sees magic and change in the chain stitch and a well done Palestrina knot. I wish I had more control over the ways of the human world but alas, all I can control are my actions and my attitude in life and the consistency of my stitches. And sometimes even that doesn’t pan out as hoped and I must rip rip rip.

Notes from the universe

Every once in a while, with gaps in time that stretch for eons, someone like you comes along who instinctively trusts their inner senses more than their physical senses, the unseen more than the seen, and whose life-insights are so piercing that they unwittingly blow the entire model of spiritual evolution to smithereens. “Gabriel, did you register beweaver’s epiphany yesterday? Raise expectations on all human beings another 72 gigatrons, and tell not a soul.” How do you do that?

hahahahaha. God help us all if I am the barometer and the bar. While I certainly do trust my inner senses a great deal and I do make decisions based on them, and some folks don’t like that because they do sometimes find my insights to be piercing, there is no doubt, NO doubt, that I am still evolving. Boy Howdy. And that my insights are just that. MY insights. They might not mesh with your insights. And I’m okay with that. My insights change all the time because I do grow and change and my point of view comes from a different angle, even as early as tomorrow. Continue reading

What Speaks to me today

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I’ve been wanting to learn how to fabricate metal, make cold connections, learn to solder metal bits. And beginning Saturday, April 5th, I will begin learning just that. 10 weeks of lessons. Woohoo! I’m mostly interested in soldering and riveting but I’m going to get so much more than that. It’s going to cost me a bit again when I get the supplies list but worth every penny. I know I already own some of the required tools. And it’s less than a mile from my house. Whee!!

This weekend was lovely, just lovely. I lived totally in the moment, the weather was super fine. My mom and I went bead shopping and had the wonderful bonus of finding that everything in the store that day was 20% off. Everything, even tools. Still spent a bundle but it was lots of fun. We went out to eat after wards for Indian food which we don’t get as often as we would like. Mango lassi’s rule. Continue reading

Bead and wire inspiration

Any time that I get intrigued and eventually very excited about a new medium to express myself artistically, I spend a lot of time online doing research and cruising around looking for the artists who have said medium down. Folks whose work inspires me pushes me to perfect the craft myself. Sometimes I discover it isn’t my thing but I still have great appreciation for the work, quite often even more appreciation since I have tried what looks easy and turns out is not. Well in theory it is. But to do it and to create real artistic beauty are not always one and the same thing. For children this is so, but rarely for us adults. The only thing that changes that, in my opinion, is intent.

So I can make Sacred Crap and have it be beautiful simply because I made it with magickal or spiritual intent. This turned out to be the case when I got all dreamy and googley over polymer clay. There are some folks out there making the most amazing stuff out of p.c. You would never even know some of it was clay. Continue reading

Little Cuties – better known as bead dangles

Took lots of pictures last night as well as made more dangles. Here are a few to maybe tempt you. And yes, the stones and charms I’m using have magickal intention behind them. Pearls, moonstones, amethyst, garnet, labradorite, shell, pentagrams, moons, stars, totem animals. Maybe not any specific magick but perhaps something that just reminds me of who I am and what matters. Which is strong magick in and of itself.

Cancer for the week

Here’s my Valentine message for you, Cancerian: The sea inside of you is not just at high tide, it’s at the highest tide possible — like what happens when the moon is full at the same time that it’s at its closest approach to Earth. To intensify the drama, the sea inside of you is stormy, with torrential rains pouring down from the heaven inside of you as winds bluster and lightning cracks. There are even water spouts rising up now and then. Yet from my perspective, it’s all gorgeous and majestic, a marvelous spectacle worthy of celebration. And since I’m confident no harm will come to you during this elemental interlude, I advise you to just enjoy the ride.Free Will Astrology

Wow. It’s funny. From the outside this is certainly what appears to be false. But inside, while I’m reading and nesting and watching Horatio Caine, things really are bubbling around in my heart and my mind. Designs, projects, possibilities, all kinds of things really. I predict a huge creative flooding very soon.

Ideas/concepts/designs I’m working on : Two wall hangings, one with the Goddess and one with the God. So far three designs are flitting around in there, haven’t settled on any one. But they all involve black felt in the background. I think. Charm bracelets and neckaces

Some new clothes made from several of the fabrics on hand, black rayon/linen blend, natural hemp knit for starters

A hanging (or two) inspired by the artword of Mary GrandPre whose work I first saw, I thought, on In the Land of Winter.
