Harvest Blessings ~ Now Accepting Commissions

I have decided to begin accepting commissions for pagan themed textile art. Pouches, banners, tool bags, book covers, robes. At some point I hope that I will have some inventory but it will always be one of a kind, perhaps some similiar items but because they are hand made all will be unique in some way.

I’ve added myself to Witchvox and become a sponsor. As soon as my payment is processed I should start appearing there under Shop/Art. On the first page. Woot! It was that category and being on the first page that decided it for me. I’ve been on witchvox before but with the name Harvest Blessings, I was something like 20 pages in and I don’t think anyone ever found me. Plus I didn’t think to advertise myself as an artist. Doh! Happy Dance.

Harvest Blessings on Witchvox

I really want to make it so that next year I can begin cutting back my hours, at least to 4 days a week.

So with that in mind.

HARVEST BLESSINGS

Fabrics: I use natural fabrics although occassionally an exceptionally beautiful man-made fiber piece will be too gorgeous to pass up. Cotton, wool, silk, linen, and wool felt are my typical fabric choices.

Threads: Also natural fibers, some are hand dyed. Perl cottons, silk, wool…

Gemstones and other trinkets: amber, hematite, moon stones, amethyst, bloodstone, carnelian, lapis, jade, bone, wood, charms that match the theme of the item.  Please see my post about charms to see a selection of what I use.

Handmade tassels, hand finished hems, hand sewn eyelets, completely finished seams. My garments and accessories are made to last.

Degrees of Closeness

I prefer that to degrees of separation. I was tickled several years ago when I found that I had 2 degrees of separation from Johnny Depp as my cousin played fiddle with one of his Austin friends, a fella who is on Depp’s only CD.

But it was nothing compared to when I found out that I am 2 degrees of closeness to the Dalai Lama. I was approached to do a quickie tutorial for some Buddhist nuns on html and decided it would be easier and more fun to just design a website for them, develop it. Then they could learn html at a community center and edit themselves. This is the website, BodhiHeart Sanga. It wasn’t until I read the content on the Teachers page that I discovered that these two wonderful nuns were both trained by the Dalai Lama himself. What an honor to be able to do this for them.

This Friday I found out that a friend, a communications guru, has been brought in to work with the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu on the Seeds of Compassion project. She’s peeing herself with joy. Very cool.

And this morning in my inbox? And invitation to attend the UW’s presentation to the Dalai Lama of an honorary doctorate and all staff and faculty are invited. “Following the conferral of the honorary degree, the Dalai Lama will address the audience on compassion and civic responsibility.” For free. I can hardly wait.

Wonders of living

Last night The Ex came over. He had volunteered to come by because he was in the area and I had requested that some day I be able to photograph some of the pouches I had made for him.

I was very nervous. We have not seen each other since the end of the breakup. Which was HIGH drama. Neither of us are really into drama although we do get it in our lives occasionally. We have spoken on the phone twice and that went pretty well. So last night was our first attempt at seeing what it would be like to be friends. I really didn’t want to cry. But I did. But they weren’t tears of pain this time. Just tears of emotions and even relief that we were able to communicate some of the things that we hadn’t been able to when in the thick of it.

The comment made by him that opened the tear flood gates was to this effect:

I want you to know that no matter what it was a privilege and an honor to consider you my partner and my lover…

I started crying so he didn’t finish. But.. goodness, here I am crying again. It’s really a shame that the timing this time around was just so off. We both made mistakes but this man? Is a truly good human being and so am I. We’re just meant to help each other in different ways for the rest of this lifetime.

SO

I took photos of the pouches and have put them on my personal website http://www.harvestblessings.com

I put them here for your viewing convenience.

Sproing!

Goodness, spring is just bursting at the seams here in the Pacific Northwest. Trees are leafing up already, which just blows my mind, I saw a cherry in full bloom a couple of days ago. Robins are singing everywhere which makes me very happy. I think perhaps that robin song makes me smile bigger and faster than any other bird. The hoarse caw of the rare raven makes me stand in awe with big eyes and open mouth GASP. The cry of the eagle makes me jump in the air and run smiling like the little girl I still am. But the robin makes me sigh and smile an All Is Right With The World Smile.

Some random shots on the walk from the bus to my office. I’m so very lucky to work on such a beautiful wooded and landscaped campus. Trees everywhere, gardens, the fisheries where I get to witness the life cycle of the salmon, a medicinal herb garden which is extremely cool all year long… It really helps me stay connected to nature even though I live in such a large city.

In the above shot of the tulip magnolia beginning to pop take a look in the bottom right corner. You can see one of the buds has a little hat on it. I reached out to touch its velvety lusciousness and the little cap just came off in my hand. No pressure at all. Check this out! Continue reading
