About Cynthia

I am a textile artist, embroiderer, wood burner, costumer, painter, and weaver who sees magic and change in the chain stitch and a well done Palestrina knot. I wish I had more control over the ways of the human world but alas, all I can control are my actions and my attitude in life and the consistency of my stitches. And sometimes even that doesn’t pan out as hoped and I must rip rip rip.

And Yet…

leaving the building and going for a short walk in the sun and shade of trees I felt joyous, so happy, to be alive… I am so lucky to work in a place that is so full of nature. Recently they tore out a bunch of cypress trees that weren’t doing very well. At first I was upset because I hate seeing plants destroyed. And yet as time passes the vista becomes familiar and I saw for the first time that what is right outside my office window is a lovely grove of trees. I would go so far as to say it might be safe for a late night ritual and I could park very close by.

This lovely shrub is very fragrant, like carnations, kind of cinnamony and sweet…

War

I have to say something. Last week marked the 5th anniversary of the Terrorist Action of the US Against Iraq. And so many blogs that I consider to be progressive and right thinking and caring made me pretty angry. I can’t tell you how many pagan blogs I read that were just pissed off at the 4,000 dead U.S. soldiers. It IS a shocking number considering that we shouldn’t be at war at all. Truly it is. BUT…

There are over 90,000 dead Iraqi CITIZENS because of our aggression in Iraq. 90,000+ Why isnt’ that number sending us into apoplectic fits? Why didn’t anyone in the pagan blogs I read give the number that was really shocking? (some people are saying between 150,000 and 600,000 Iraqis have died)

The US was involved in Vietnam for almost 20 years (the actual fighting was 1965-73) and 58,193 US soldiers died. There are estimates that maybe 2,000,000 Vietnamese civilians died. Another ridiculous war where our young and theirs were killed for nothing.

I’m telling you that just makes me sick.

I’m just heartsick that we are hurtling into war with Iran. Just Sick.

The Druid Journal is talking about it.  Go Druids!

The Medieval Tailor website

The Medieval Tailor website, http://www.medievaltailor.com, is going to be
removed from the server on April 30th. I will keep the files and if I move to a
server eventually that has more file space, I will put it back up. If someone
with free server space wanted to host it for the good of the SCA then by all
means contact me. I have no desire to keep this info from folks, it is free and
available to all. I just don’t have room for the things that pertain to my
current life and this has to go.

Consider this your notice that if you want to keep the demos, you can either
print them or you can “save as” and keep a digital copy of any pages you might
use.

Also, there are a few last things still for sale. If they do not sell, I will
keep them, not give them away.

Please feel free to forward this notice far and wide so as many people who need
to see this will. I’ve also put a notice up on the home page for the site.

Thanks for the memories!!

Best,
Merouda

Sun Wheel Pentagram goodness

After this I’ll try and keep my updates on the bag progress to a weekly post. Tried to get some better shots.

Not so Mary Engelbreit today. Took the red out and used blue. Which toned the cute factor down just a tidge. And now I have the colors of the 4 elements together.

This will be one of the simple cheaper designs. Just a bit more to do and that one is good to go.

And here is what my fingers go through. I really dislike thimbles because I can’t feel anything with one on and that affects my fine motor skills. A lot. When I say I sew until I bleed I’m not kidding. My two middle fingers are on their way to being ground hamburger by the end of today or tomorrow. But with a healthy dose of Rescue Remedy cream I can coax them into being calluses by the weekend. But no helping it, a sharp little needle is a sharp little needle.

The new bag templates

Over the past few days in my not so copious spare time, I have been working on getting the new tarot bags ready for embellishment. I decided which designs to use, including some new ones, drew up the motifs for the iron on adhesive, cut them out, ironed them, cut them out, ironed them, cut out the fabric for the pouches themselves, and began the embellishment on one pouch. Time intensive and there is velveteen fluffy pile everywhere and in everything…

Some days my camera doesn’t take very good pictures and today is one of them… The colors on these bags just don’t look anything near as rich as they are in person.

Black wool with rust wool applique. It makes me think of a pentagram that Mary Engelbreit would draw and I’m reconsidering the french knots. The rust is so much rustier than here. Really going to have to work hard on my photos for online selling because this just isn’t right.
