Rigid Container

Yay!  The first project on the list of Absolutely Must Finish These Never Ending Projects List.

The top edges and the pentagram rim are painted with several layers of gold paint. The snake panel has a wash of the gold, as do the owl eyes, the stag antlers, and some dashes on the bee hive.

(clicky make biggie)

The plaques are outlined in gold and then with burned wood. Any shiny-ness between black and gold is just that. Shiny-ness.  Not an inability to paint within the lines.  The inside is solid gold paint. Very sparkly.

The Waiting

Waiting… I’m getting better at it.

Work

It’s been an interesting week on the job front.

I knew two weeks ago that I didn’t get a certain job I applied for, the signs were all there. So when they called me last week to schedule a third interview was kind of disappointed. See, I’m really wanting to manifest that one job, the plum. Being in a position to have to choose or accept a different position because I would be a total fool to say no to anyone, well I was trying not to assume and not to future trip, but it made me nervous.

So I had the interview for the plum on Monday. It well went but I’ve learned that it means nothing. There are absolutely no indicators that you did or did not get a job until they say you did or didn’t get the job. I had the interview on Wednesday, the third for that one job. It gave me breathing room. But things are getting interesting.

They told me that they felt my qualifications, especially technically, were superior to the position I originally interviewed for. They are looking at me for another position, one that would be the lead producer on their mobile/apps division. Holy Guacamole!!!  So we had a nice chat and I wait.

I’m in the running for both jobs.  They are both great jobs. Great for my resume. One will offer more money but lesser benefits than the other. The other will offer me great benefits and my seniority back. I wait.

I really hope that one of them offers me a place.

Love

Mr. Furnace asked me a couple weeks ago to see each other exclusively.  Not that either of us were dating anyone else but it is a real step and it is is an agreement between two people.  After that he asked me to his parent’s home for Christmas Day dinner.  That is a real step.  Last week he said we are “official.”

Before anyone make the leap that I’m not acting like an independent woman or that this is old school or what the hell ever I have to say this. Mr. Furnace is, in his words, “an uber fixer upper.”  He is correct in this statement. I am an uber fixer upper too. We have been doing this grand experiment for 7 months now.  Holy Moly.  We still only hold hands and cuddle and stuff. But the kisses are no longer grandma kisses.  The steps of progress might be subtle to others but given time, like I have, I see the steps very clearly.  It is good. It is fabulous! I’m starting, just starting, to feel comfortable. To feel safe. I’ve never felt that in a relationship, not really. And there is still room for me to grow here, I am not fully comfortable or safe or trusting. But I’m getting there and I’m getting there honestly, slowly.  It is the right thing to do.

Home

Dad is really starting to fail. Poor guy.  He knows when he’s confused and confused he really is. Mom is getting tired and I’m starting to get opportunities to help more, especially this week since she had cataract surgery. She has another one in 2 weeks. She can’t drive but there are other helpers. He remains mostly cheerful against the pain and disappointment of losing his mind. We are getting the social workers involved, we need someone to help us find options for home care and eventually outside living arrangements.

Creativity

I’m working on the Rigid Container (search for posts). The final stages of gold painting and possible burning before final varnish.  Soon, soon, photos.

Over all a good start to the New Year….

Shipped to France

*whew*

Now I can concentrate on what I need to do here. Not as much stuff and progress has been made on it already. Mr. Furnace’s** scarf is made, his box on its way, the tapestry armchair antimacassars for my folk’s arm chairs are in the works to match the upholstered foot stool I repaired for them before the French folk visited at Halloween. And that is it! I’ll be done with Yule giving. 2011 is going to be for me to finish all those unfinished projects that are languishing due to neglect and other projects.  I’m so excited to finish the rigid container, the Wheel of the Year wall hanging, and the Roumanian peasant blouse!

** btw, things are heating up with Mr. Furnace in a nice slow increasing burn and that’s all *I* want for Yule. The love of this good man. And a job, that would be nice too SinterKlaas / Universe…

So many photos here…

Another rigid container

My nephew went gaga over my rigid container (one of the unfinished projects) so I thought he deserved one of his own on a smaller scale….  Note his foot disappearing into the crown of the tree.  He’s a monkey boy all right, tree climbing fool…

A frame for my brother the photographer

It occurred to me that it is a bit busy for a frame but hopefully he’ll have something he loves that will not compete… The colored pencils I use to tint my work I have decided I like more than any other coloring method. I’ve tried many but the prismacolor with blending pencil are my favs…. With a nice matte varnish by the modge podge people.

The napkin set for my sis in law

Reversible placemats and runner with two sets of napkins in coordinating prints.

A scarf for my bro

Skinny but long, soft as can be in a soft merino / alpaca blend, it feels great around the neck. Mr. Furnace is getting one in a lavendery mauve that is wider and short for less wrap because that man does run HOT. *tsssssssssssssss*

And for ME!

A new burner, a Detail Master III, a professional quality tool for my wood burning. I simply need something that allowed me more tip options and a higher burn temp.  I feel a little guilty but there it is.  Merry Yule to me. I deserve some joy and it’s coming in spades. I am addicted to wood burning and will be making Mr. Furnace’s box with the new tool.  Heee. She said tool.  (update: OMG this thing is AMAZING.  Changes everything!!!)

Inexpensive Gift Idea

Looking for the perfect gift without spending too much money?  I must recommend the tool I use EVERY day.  My Wickman. This thing is the best.  The scoopy end is perfect for freeing wicks that have become trapped in wax or making the melted well larger.  The pointy scrapey end I use to bend the wick into the melted wax to put out the wick with no smoke or stinky smell.  I use it to pry that last bit of votive candle out of a little jar, either the last of the wax or the stuck metal wick holder.  It is also perfect for writing on your candles and other handy tasks, both magical and mundane. This is THE best “white handled knife” you will ever own.  *winkwink*  This thing is really strong and sturdy too, very well made.

I’m just a satisfied customer. Click on the image to go their webpage…
