Summer is back

And I’m making potato salad for the OLOTEAS ritual potluck today.  Now, you should know that I make the best potato salad ever.  The purist’s potato salad.  I keep it very simple and folks who don’t like potato salad like mine.  For one thing I put in a ton of eggs.  And I have a family secret ingredient. Narcissus hates that secret ingredient but he loved my tater salad.  And I hate things like olives and capers and sweet pickles and crap like that in this particular salad and don’t bring Miracle Whip anywhere near me.  Feh. Bleah. Criminal.  Just the basics folks and that’s good enough but really it’s the best ever.

My Potato Salad

  • However many potatos you need to make the size of salad you need
  • 6-9 eggs
  • Mayonaise (Best Foods is the one I recommend, it really is the best)
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Secret Ingredient (which happens to be dill pickle juice from the pickle jar, about 1/4 – 1/3 of a cup)
  1. Cook those potatoes until they are fairly soft.  Nothing worse than biting into a potato that is al dente in my opinion.  You need just enough solid potato to keep it together but enough mooshy potato to make it creamy.  I do not peel my potatos but when I cut them up for the salad, I get rid of the about 80% of the skins at that time.  It just happens really.
  2. Hard boil the eggs.
  3. Dice the potatoes and eggs (after peeling the eggs of course)
  4. Add pickle juice
  5. salt and pepper to taste (add more after the mayo and mustard most likely)
  6. Be very generous with the mayo and and temperate with the dijon mustard. You want a creamy mix, no dry areas, just a little more than you think you might. I usually start with a bit and keep adding until I get the right consistency and flavor. Hard to have too much mayo but it’s a fine line between perferct and too much mustard.
  7. C’est Magnifique!

I’m picking up my friend Ruth at 2:30 and we’re off like the Dixie Chicks to fun in the sun.  And perhaps a dip in the pool.  I’m taking my bags and putting them out just in case someone is in the mood to shop although it will be stealth merchanting really.   Woohoo! Ritual, good friends, good food, sun, shade, and water. Can’t ask for much more than that.

I woke up this morning and it occurred to me that I might run into Narcissus there and it became very clear that I’m okay.  I’m finally free.  Yes! But how cool would it be if he went somewhere else today?  Wouldn’t miss him a bit.

Also the mailman dropped off my new tarot deck, Pearls of Wisdom.  This is an art deck for sure.  Vibrant colors and very busy.  But it has elements that I just love and it’s going to be another of my embroidery inspirations…

The Sun Will Come Out …. Today!

It’s been a week of cold and wet.  Which means free water in the garden and my berries still haven’t withered on the vine.  More blackberriesw for me.  Assuming the sun will come back.  It’s feeling so very fall-ish and while I lovelovelove fall, spring and summer were so late I still need some sun.

And today here it is.  Not a cloud in the sky.  This morning around the lake it was cloudy.  But giving a little promise.  And here it is.  Fall before it’s time makes one appreciate the end of the summer…

Tomorrow I take my friend Ruth, who is uber curious about Wicca to OLOTEAS for her first ever ritual.  I don’t think I would be going if Ruth hadn’t been asking me for a month now if there was a Wicca event she could go to.  I think it will be fun.  With a sunny day on the forecast, just like it is right now, we should have a very good time.

And reheated refried beans?  Are one of the best foods on earth.  Just saying…

Quotes

I’m working on a new website design for a group of local writers. I’m using quotes and script as part of the design and I’m finding some great stuff.

Too bad so sad

The lovely elfin boots arrived. And it is all too sad that they make my feet look like Goliath’s. Or as my friend Amphybia said, they look like Orc boots. Too tight around my ankles (admittedly not the most svelte but not large either) and about 3″ too long.

*sigh* They are returning on Monday… The look continues.

Ooooooh Girrrrl

Say it out loud with as much ethnic girlness as you can muster.

I got an interesting phone call while I was out walking Greenlake.  I’m not up to the three miles all the way around yet (how pathetic is that??) but it’s a beautiful place.  This morning there was a lovely mist so the morning was cool with the promise of sun later.  Perfect for walking and with that hint of autumn crispness we get in the August mornings here in the Pacific Northwest. Red wing blackbird babies, squirrels, the first acorns on the ground, the lily pad flowers in their full glory.  Gorgeous.

But you don’t really care about that now do you.  Cuz I know you just waiting for the gossip huh? What WAS that interesting phone call?

There was a voicemail from a woman in the university’s HR office. She wants to interview me about a serious issue taking place in the department I just left.  We all know what that is about don’t we.  I called God’s Rottweiler to ask if there was anything he wanted me to focus on.  He said that any of it would suffice, that it has been hell around there.

My friends, you know that The Village Idiot is getting fired.  It might not be resolved by the end of next week per GR but the end is imminent. Soon.  With him gone and my assistant gone you know what they’ll be needing?  A webmaster.
